Just a few reminders....So that the rest of the summer can be enjoyed by all members and their guests:
Message from the board of trusteesWe hope everyone is taking advantage of the great weather and enjoying the early summer at Swim & Racquet. The last three years has seen a number of new family members and many with younger children. We have also experienced below average resignations the last two years. This year we achieved full family membership! The last time the club had full family membership was nearly eight years ago. It is great to see so many new and younger faces around the pool. As we mentioned in the January Swiquet, there are other new aspects to Swim & Racquet this year. Tim Casey, our new General Manager, has hit the ground running. Tim, Todd Emery (another new addition to the staff), and the ever present Yard Dogs are the folks responsible for getting the club into shape and maintaining its upkeep. They have moved quickly up the learning curve. All members can help with the upkeep of the club by throwing away their own trash and if you see a stray cup, grabbing that too. The club software is new this year too. Technology is a wonderful thing and it will help us manage the club in so many ways. However, when the words “new” and “technology” are used together it usually leads to “ironing out the bugs.” We hope we have made it over the initial hump and the software will run more smoothly the balance of the summer. We also know there have been some issues with the snack bar early this summer. Some of the early issues related to properly functioning software. We hope that aspect is behind us. The software has made the order processing much more efficient but the bottleneck appears to be the inability of the kitchen to handle the large influx of food orders in a short period of time. We are working to resolve these inconveniences. Last point on the software, we have the ability to e-mail your monthly statement. We would prefer you choose this option since it saves paper and postage costs for the club. You can contact Denise Neds to give her the key information required (e.g. name, member number and desired e-mail address for statement delivery). The e-mail statement gives you the ability to look at individual charges in great detail (much better than single line items on the paper variety). We have recently voted to go to a charge-only policy for most transactions at the club. Cash handling has risks and the tracking and accounting for cash transactions is inordinately more time consuming. However, at Pam Brady’s discretion cash is still accepted for tennis merchandise and cash will also be accepted in the snack bar at Sue Preston’s discretion. Thank you for your understanding as we implement this new policy. Thank you for your attention. Enjoy the rest of the season! Bob Sharpe Swim and dive team meet scheduleThe Sea Dog Swim and Dive team has had a great season. Our Blue/Gold meet ran smoothly with many swimmers and divers competing for the first time. As the summer has progressed, each team member has been learning new skills and making improvements. We had the opportunity to compete in many meets and one of our away meets even ended with swimmers swimming by moonlight! Good luck at the Championships on July 12. Go Sea Dogs!
Swim lessonsThe last session of swimming lessons for 2010 is ready to begin. Session 3 runs from Wednesday, July 14 through Friday, July 23 and is $20 per child. The make-up date for canceled lessons due to weather will be Saturday, July 24. Swim instructors are also still available for ½ hour private lessons. Tennis updateWe’ve had a great beginning to our summer. The men’s and women’s teams are underway and the junior clinics are ready to start their second session. The junior travel team is well underway. There is still tennis planned for you all.
See you soon on the courts! Social updateThe Easter Egg Hunt was another success and the weather was beautiful. The bunny left over 350 eggs and several bags of candy for the 60 kids registered. There were games and raffles as well. A good time was had by all! There are many upcoming events planned over the next few months. Look for signups coming soon. We are so excited about this new pool season and looking forward to many fun family activities and meeting all the new members.
Cheers! Sports equipment sign outA new policy for using the sports equipment ( basketballs, volleyballs etc.) has taken effect. All balls need to be signed out in the gazebo. The person signing out the equipment will be responsible for that item which means returning the item to the gazebo when finished and paying for a new ball if it is damaged. The club has purchased many items and all have been destroyed. The club has purchased a few new balls to replace the damaged ones and to try to preserve these items, the sign out policy has been established. Parents, please be aware that if your child signs out sports equipment and it is destroyed or not returned to the gazebo, you will be responsible for replacing the item. We all need to be more conscious of taking care of our sports equipment. Recycling at Swim & RacquetThe subject of recycling has been raised. This issue has been discussed periodically in the past but we cannot devise a cost effective solution. First, empty (unrinsed) bottles or cans draw bees. Conveniently located recycling bins would constitute bee magnets which we assume members would rather not draw to the pool deck. If we could resolve the bee issue, our trash service is for refuse collection only (we are not serviced by UA). The best recycling solution we have heard is to bring your empties home and place them in your own recycling bins. |
